Since we were little, we were thought of a lots of things, from arithmetic to nosebleed algebra, from earth science to physical and applied sciences, from Philippine History up to World History, we tend to think we know it all.

But inside the four corners of the room, we have not been exposed to great learning experiences that proves that not everything can be learned inside the classroom. Our mentors might have instilled in our minds that it is good to help, and do things without anything in return, nada nada...
We might have been into some basic activities like tree planting and community clean-ups, but on our young minds we don't really think of what effects does this simple things help...

What practical outputs will we gain from these activities?

For me, service learning is a validation of the ideas and lessons that we have been taught inside the four walls of the classroom. We are engaged to discover what lies outside, what we should do in real-life situations and how can we learn as we serve.

The lecture earlier reminded me of my elementary and highschool days when I was just innocent of the whole process of community service. When all I do is volunteer just for sheer fun of it, not considering the fact that this is something that a lot of people have looked forward to and something that is done to help other people. I haven't realized before that there are a lot of factors to be considered, that there is a need for an efficient plan and of course unity and cooperation from the members of the team, that there are welfare and security factors that are to be taken cared of, especially for the students and of course the faculty, and the community.

Before we go out on the battle, we should be well-prepared to face the community that we are giving our service to. It is also to be taken into consideration the financial constraints, security and welfare so that we could expect a great output.

This is why we should bear in our minds that a great plan means great output and that we should engage a plan which is feasible and much more to the benefit of the community we are serving.
